Are We There Yet?

Updated: Aug 7, 2020

2020 is it still the year of perfect vision!

The coronavirus has transformed our normal daily routine into an uncomfortable place! Many of us are experiencing frustration, confusion, disappointment, denial, doubt or trying to deal with the lost of a loved one. You turn on the news and you see loss, economic distress, lay off, furloughs, passing of loved ones, division in the White House and within our states. When I woke up today, I started thinking about what we anticipated this year to be, “2020 The Year Of Perfect Vision.” No one anticipated it to be like this, the healthcare system and frontline workers being overwhelmed and frustrated while being faithful and courageous in the face of adversity! But I heard these words, ARE WE THERE YET. I paused then I heard the YEAR of the drive by! I Immediately shook my head and started smiling at God!

I know you might be thinking what does this have to do with me! It has a lot to do with you.

I can remember growing up and how my parents would take me and my 2 brothers to Hersey Park! We would be so excited about the destination but not about the length of time it would take us to get there. We started out excited and motivated. Talking and singing to the music on the radio. Our vocals or the lack of the talent to sing would deviate into a conversation about what rides we were going to get on and the food we wanted 10 to 15 minutes into the trip. Within 40 minutes the question that all parents couldn’t stand to hear soon pierced the air, “ARE WE THERE YET!” My parents heads would turn around and with a joint effort and on one accord NO came back through the air to us! It was interesting and funny to me because other things that they may have disagreed about and needed to have their united front meetings about a certain decision on how to handle a situation pertaining to how respond to things. At that moment a meeting wasn’t required and the quick response, “NO!” It wasn’t the destination that discouraged us it was the amount of time it would take to get there. Immediately reflected to Mark 4:35-40 when Jesus told the disciples to let’s take the boat and go to the other side. The disciples did think twice about it because they has skilled fisherman with them. They were acclimated to the duration of the trip & the size of the boat and how many people it could carry. They basically knew the route and had a ETA (Expected Time Of Arrival) 😂. They weren’t concerned with the task at all.

However, midway through the trip they encountered a storm. I believe they attempted to navigate through it but the storm wasn’t a normal storm that a few of the skilled fisherman on the boat experienced. The Bible describes the experience like this; And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. Fear and doubt began to overtake them. Fear of not knowing if they were going to make it or die. Right now we are experiencing overwhelming thoughts of fear & doubt. Are we going to make it through the coronavirus pandemic, Deaths, lay off, furloughs, violence, frustration, and injustices that we see. While others are hurt over not experiencing memorable milestones; wedding, graduations, birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, bridal showers, baby showers and family vacations. The most important thing of them all is not being able to hug, stand close, or touch anyone which leads us to the parade of cars that drive by to celebrate your milestone! This year has turned into the year of the drive by. Driving by and waving and supporting others quickly! (But like the drive by it takes times to arrive at your destination but when you arrive to the place of your desire you forget about the process and what you hand to endure!”) ?.....

Just like the disciples a storm occurred and made them afraid. It got so bad that they woke up Jesus and asked him did he not care that they might die. Jesus stood up and spoke to the storm and said Peace Be Still! Right now it appears like you won’t arrive to your destination! You might be asking yourself are we there yet! Is this horrible season of my life over and have I arrived to the place of purpose! Will I live or shall I die! Are we there yet? Can I make it through coronavirus? Are we there yet?

Are we there yet describes the process and the emotions that you experience and endure while being in the midst of the storm! I can assure you that just like we pestered our parents about arriving to Hersey Park. In addition to our visions and hopes of the rides and food at the park while having to endure the length of time to arrive to our destination. My parents we with us in the car and the didn’t go any faster to arrive because they wanted us to be safe. So while the remained at the same pace there presence was seen but we didn’t get a reaction from them. They remained focused. Just like Jesus in the storm he wasn’t fearful or emotional over what was happening. He used his authority to command a storm to cease! The disciples had Jesus with them! He was all that they needed to survive! You have everything that you need to survive this season! This year is the year of the drive by! Things will happen quickly in your life. You have already endure the time and the tings that you desire will come to you very fast! No more time to question are we there yet! You will know that you are there when the destination matches your vision that you had before the process began!
